Hardback. Etat : Mint. Etat de la jaquette : Mint. First Thus. A BIBLIOGRAPHIC ACCOUNT OF THE PRINCIPAL WORKS RELATING TO ENGLISH TOPOGRAPHY. William Upcott. EP Publishing, Wakefield. 1978 First Thus. ISBN 0715813102 Hardback. This copy is in mint condition, unmarked, tight, bright, white and square, it appears unread. The unclipped dust wrapper is also in mint, unmarked condition. William Upcott (1779-1845) was an English librarian and antiquary. Upcott published in 1818, in three volumes, a 'Bibliographical Account of the Principal Works relating to English Topography.' It was later largely superseded by the 'British Topography' (1881) of John P. Anderson, who refers in his preface to Upcott's 'excellent catalogue.' Upcott revised for the press the first edition of John Evelyn's Diary, brought out by William Bray in 1818. This edition contains all three volumes of the first edition which was published in an edition of just250 copies and , until this reprint, has never been reissued. This edition has the benefit of an introduction by Professor Jack Simmonds setting out briefly the facts of Upcott's curious life and provides an appreciation of his work. Ref O2.
