Synopsis
John Hawkridge was slightly handicapped at birth and by an unfortunate operation was rendered fully crippled. Despite this, his remarkable determination and energy enabled him to become a formidable hillwalker and finally conqueror of a good way up Everest. His fortitude has made him the star of two television documentaries and man of the year 1989. "Uphill all the Way" is the story of his early life, his family, his schooldays, his operation, his determination to succeed in walking and his pleasure in the freedom it gives him. The story of how he negotiates obstacles and overcomes them, and his attitude to his disability and handicapped people provides this story.
