Synopsis

From the Classic series, a series of children's novels, in print since the early twentieth century, which incorporate strong Christian moral themes. These simple tales have been reprinted in response to demand from booksellers, parents and Sunday School teachers. They are ideal for helping children aged 9-13 to understand the values of Christianity and its teachings, and make perfect school or Sunday School prizes. Teddy's most prized possession is the button from his father's coat worn in battle, and teddy delights to tell of his father's military prowess. His reputation as leader of the children of the village is threatened by the young girl Nancy, whose proud ways bring them into conflict. Teddy has to learn to fight his feelings of hatred and mischief. His fascination with the military life is heightened by the arrival of soldiers in his village whom he enchants with his tale, and he uses his experiences of his own conflicts to help a soldier to improve his life. When Teddy nearly pays with his own life to save his button, he comes closer to understanding the demands made in the 'battle' of life.

A sailor walks anyhow. I saw one once, and I thought he was tipsy, but he wasn't. A sailor walks like a goose—he waddles!' 'You're the horridest, rudest boy I've ever seen!'[...]".
