Deception has been an integral part of warfare since Troy accepted a wooden horse from the Acheans, but it has generally been looked on as the ruses de guerre of cunning individuals rather then an essential component of the command skills necessary for success. This book is the first to describe fully the place of deception in warfare.

This book is the first to describe fully the place of deception in warfare. Jon Latimer demonstrates how simple some tricks have been, but also how technology has increased the range and subtlety of what is possible, for example, using bogus radio traffic and virtual images. Jon Latimer served for sixteen years as an officer in the Royal Welch Fusiliers (TA) including as Platoon Commander, Battalion Intelligence Officer and with the staff of the 4th Armoured Brigade. Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good. 1st Edition. A very good clean copy in a very good jacket. How deception has shaped warfare from the ancient world to the modern era. Latimer, who served as an intelligence officer in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, approaches the subject as both a historian and a practitioner. He explains that deception is not a collection of clever tricks but a disciplined military art aimed at shaping the enemy commander's perception. The book moves through naval, air, land, and irregular warfare, showing how misinformation, camouflage, feints, double agents, dummy equipment, and manipulated signals have repeatedly altered the course of campaigns. Latimer argues that successful deception depends on understanding how an opponent thinks, exploiting their assumptions, and coordinating false information across every level of command. The result is a wide?ranging narrative that connects the Trojan Horse to modern electronic warfare, demonstrating that deception has always been central to military success.
