The Story: A humorous adventure in verse following the Bunney-Fluff twins (Flip and Flop) as they move from their riverside home "Bunnymead" to a safer "Bunney-Cot." With the help of Mr. Duck the boatman and friends like water rats and Froggy, they navigate mishaps on the river, including a dramatic rescue. Charming, gentle tale full of whimsy, perfect for bedtime reading. About the Creators: A. J. MacGregor (Angusine Jeanne MacGregor, 1879-1961) was a pioneering British illustrator and author who helped define the early visual style of Ladybird Books. Born in Harborne, Birmingham, to Scottish parents, she studied at Birmingham School of Art. MacGregor created both story and illustrations for many of the first Ladybird titles in Series 401 (rhyming animal stories launched in the early 1940s). Her warm, expressive watercolour illustrations of anthropomorphic animals?rabbits, ducks, frogs, and more?brought charm and personality to these books, making them instant classics. She contributed significantly to the success of titles like Bunnikin's Picnic Party, Ginger's Adventures, and this one. Her work is highly sought after by Ladybird collectors for its nostalgic appeal and artistic quality. W. Perring wrote the engaging verses for this and many other Series 401 books. His rhythmic, playful poetry complemented MacGregor's illustrations perfectly, creating accessible stories that appealed to young readers in post-war Britain. Series Context: Series 401 represents Ladybird's earliest numbered series of original rhyming stories. These small, affordable hardbacks with their distinctive format (text on one side, full-colour plate opposite) set the template for decades of Ladybird publishing. This title is a key early example, first issued in 1948. This copy of The Bunney-Fluffs' Moving Day would make a wonderful addition to a Ladybird collection or a charming gift for fans of vintage children's literature.
