Known first as Jones and then as Sanford County, the county was named Lamar in 1877, in honor of L.Q.C. Lamar, a senator from Mississippi. Barbara Woolbright Carruth is a lifelong resident of Lamar County and a member of the Lamar County Historical and Genealogical Society. She brings to this volume an abiding interest in the history of her community and a love for its people. Lamar County is a fitting tribute to the place she calls home, and a treasure for residents of all ages.
