Eventually, Monmouth Avenue and the lakefront became very desirable locations for seasonal homes. Once promoted as New Jersey's garden spot, Spring Lake came to contain several private landscape showplaces, exquisite public grounds, and a legendary non-commercial boardwalk. Author, architectural historian, and preservation advocate Patricia Florio Colrick is a resident of Spring Lake and has written about New Jersey historic sites for many years. She has also served as president of the Spring Lake Historical Society.
