This collection of essays moves beyond the frequent headline obsession with the Arab-Israeli conflict to consider issues of human security and environmental change that may profoundly affect the Euro-Mediterranean in the first five decades of the twenty-first century. Beginning with a set of conceptual questions, Liota examines alternative views of security, of multilateral efforts intended to promote stability and prosperity, and of the various models that have been used to explain conflict and cooperation in this region. A scholarly assessment informed by the author's experience in policy work, this analysis of many timely and complex topics will have long-term significance for the Euro-Mediterranean.
