They will be competing to find out which family would actually have survived as pioneers in the Montana wilderness of the 1880s.
Selected from more than 5,000 applicants, the three families head west in the spring to spend six months living as homesteaders using only the tools and technology of the period. During this unique experience, they endure all the harsh realities of frontier life, including extreme weather conditions, encounters with bears and dramatic weight loss.
As the participants set about building a community and preparing themselves for the cruel Montana winter, THE FRONTIER HOUSE reveals the trials, triumphs, simple pleasures and daily rigours of life as a pioneer.

SIMON SHAW is the successful series producer behind THE 1900 HOUSE, THE 1940s HOUSE and THE EDWARDIAN COUNTRY HOUSE. He has spent more than twenty years as a television and radio producer for, amongst others, the BBC.
