Students will act out the story of the events that led up to the writing of the Star-Spangled Banner! Readers will learn about Mary Pickersgill, who made a flag for the War of 1812 that inspired the famous poem. This Reader's Theater script features roles written to match multiple reading levels. Teachers can assign specific roles to their readers based on each student's current reading level, allowing all students to get involved in the same activity and feel successful! Students will gain confidence in their reading fluency through performance, regardless of their current reading ability. Stephanie Macceca, M.A.Ed., earned her B.A. in English and American Literature from the University of California, San Diego, and earned her M.A. in Education from Claremont University. She taught high school English, Spanish, and Media Studies at Claremont High School and currently teaches English at Valhalla High School where she serves as the English Department Chair. Stephanie has also been honored with several scholarly awards, including the Peter Lincoln Spencer Fellowship, the Paul Douglas Fellowship, and the Renaissance Teacher of the Year.
