Attacks on civil liberties are on the increase in the United Kingdom. This is evident in restrictions on press freedom, greater public secrecy, censorship, intolerance towards "travellers", lesbians and gays and other minority groups and wider police controls. This book provides a guide to civil rights and the law for the lay reader as well as those working in the legal and advice professions. Based on Liberty's own advice sheets, the guide explains legal rights, covering recent legislation and highlights aspects of the law which adversely affect civil rights. Each section is prefaced with a summary of the issues covered, followed by definitions and powers relevant to the area. The guide does not cover the law in Scotland or Northern Ireland.
