Synopsis

These four volumes together comprise a comprehensive coverage of ergonomics, emphasizing in particular, two aspects of the subject - its orientation towards the transformation of working objects and systems and the acknowledgement of the variety of users and situations that can be involved. The congress which prompted the papers in this three-volume set comprised 607 oral presentations representing 40 nationalities. Two of the volumes contain the papers presented at the congress itself, the third contains the 118 posters from the event and the fourth contains the plenary papers and is a special issue of "Ergonomics". The material in this detailed work covers the measurement and assessment of physical work (for example, static muscle loading and postural stress); the analysis of work and tasks (for example, applications of fuzzy set theory in human factors); information processing (for example, the human-computer interface and fatigue); the assessment of workplaces (for example, noise and vibration effects); product design (for example, methods, prototypes and simulation); design of production systems (for example, technology transfer); ergonomics and special needs (for example, ageing at work); work improvement (for example, participatory ergonomics) and the skills of the ergonomist (for example, the European training model).
