An increasing range of feminist work indicates the importance of gender within the workplace, especially where technology is involved. Work which is defined as "technical" commonly remains a largely male preserve, even within computing - an industry that was hailed, in its early days, as open equally to both women and men. This international collection brings together two areas of research and debate: firstly, the sociology of gender relations in the workplace, and secondly, the expanding body of interdisciplinary research into the design of computer systems. The essays seek to articulate distinctive gender perspectives in relation to IT. The collection, aimed at academics, researchers and practitioners, brings together feminists, sociologists and computer scientists using original case studies to explore the impact of gender relations upon computer systems design.
