Using a detailed case study of Teesside in North East England, this text examines the importance of place in relation to economic restructuring and social change. It gives an historical analysis of how Teesside was first produced and reproduced as a community, and relates the specificities of place to the internationalization of economic affairs. Based on years of research by the three authors, "A Place Called Teesside" is a theoretically informed analysis which contributes to debate about the constitution of place and the limits to local economic development policies.
