The Royal Navy Day by Day is a fascinating record of British naval heritage. It is preserved here as a diary of daily events - not just of great battles, but of all that has built the Royal Navy's 700-year-old tradition. While so many books of naval history concentrate on the big events, The Royal Navy Day by Day examines also the conditions that sailors, Royal Marines and naval aircrew, as well as Army and RAF forces involved in sea and amphibious operations, have experienced in peacetime as well as war. First published in 1979, the original book needed to be brought up to date and to reflect the Royal Navy's significant involvement in the Falklands and the First Gulf War. This led to a substantial updating and revision of the text and photographs in the Second Edition published in 1992. With the Royal Navy's heavy involvement in peacekeeping and offensive actions worldwide since 1992, a third edition has become necessary. This Third Edition has been thoroughly revised and updated to include the principal operational and administrative developments in the Royal Navy since 1992. It has been completely re-illustrated.

Product Description:The Royal Navy Day by Day, the splendid history of the Senior Service across 500 years, presented as a diary of daily events, has become a familiar and much-loved part of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines. It is the standard naval history reference book employed daily throughout the Fleet. Here are recorded not just great battles but also minor actions by small ships, and the service of men and women, sailors, Royal Marines, the WRNS, aircrew, submariners, and RFA and Merchant Navy personnel, down the generations. It is also the Royal Navyâs own story â" what was done to it by the sea, the enemy and the Admiralty â" and the traditions and customs, the quirks and eccentricities it has gathered around itself. This book is a tribute to the Royal Navy but it is not a company history; it records just a few of the Navyâs dropped catches and own goals which give added credibility to this very fine record. The Royal Navy Day by Day is highly regarded in the Royal Navy and it is issued to all HM ships and establishments. First published in 1979, this expanded second edition has been thoroughly revised and updated, and contains many fresh images. N° de réf. du vendeur 2149938781
