This is a collection of papers on the study of comparative social policy, with reference to Britain and Tawian. Both the UK and Taiwan can be said to be liberal market democracies, and each is an offshore island on the fringe of perceived contrasting continental notions of systems and governance. These similarities are useful for the purpose of comparing social policy in the two countries. However the differences between the two countries are also needed in a comparative study such as this. This book presents an overview of the state in which each country presently exist, for example Britain is said to be a "welfare state", where Taiwan is not but is considering its position and the potential for a "welfare state". There is then a look to the future of each country and their prospective social policies, looking at : pensions, health care, family and community care, and ideas on welfare and growth.
