I was born in Boston, Mass., on July 9, 1923. Not long after, my family moved to a small town 20 miles north of Boston called Stoneham. The town had beautiful shade trees, woods, and ponds. I went fishing often. I rode my bicycle all over town and my favorite pastime was going to the zoo to feed the animals. During the Depression of the '30's my father lost his house. The town gave us an abandoned house to live in. It had no heating system and all the windows were broken. In the winter it would be 20 below zero in the house. I found out what it was to suffer. I soon learned to appreciate the simple things in life. The feeling of compassion and empathy entered my life. I started to feel and care for people. I capture this in my book as a 'Boiling Mad' feeling when I see injustice. I reveal everything in my book about this. I want to do everything I can to make it easier for mankind by my passion and action. I saw injustice at every turn: in the army, as a songwriter, in politics. I want to instill in you my 'Boiling Mad' and explosive feelings. Read my book and join me, think and do something about it.
Was it chance, luck, or destiny? I don't know but the wings of fate carried me on its magic flight to make my life a great adventure. This simple 'kid' of nineteen grew into maturity on foreign soil by talking with captured German generals who worked with us to win the war.I met characters like Otto Skorzeny, the dashing Errol Flynn - like soldier who challenges danger at every turn. I was a 'lowly' private who had the good fortune to rub shoulders with the elite of the world, such as the King of Hungary, the past Chancellor of Germany and later Richard Nixon, Robert Kennedy, and Frank Sinatra.I would soon meet the heroes of the war and the world --- the American soldiers. Later, I would meet heroes like Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert Kennedy in compassion, love, and freedom. As the young soldiers of World War II contributed to destiny, these later heroes were waiting in the wings.I know the world will always be grateful for the strength of the eagle and have a strong kinship with the dove. The symbols of power, and the symbol of peace and love.
