Tactical maps, level pathways, and species-specific survival guides populate the volume to assist players through the steep difficulty curve of the game's three campaigns, covering the Alien, Predator, and Colonial Marine storylines. The volume features an illustrated softcover binding housing 168 pages of gaming data and black-and-white gameplay renderings. The guide was issued with a loose color filter insert, which simulated the specialized thermal and electromagnetic sight modes of the Alien and Predator characters; because the insert was a loose component subject to active gameplay use, surviving guides frequently lack it. Joe Grant Bell authored the text, one of more than thirty official strategy guides he produced for Prima Games during the era of printed gaming media.
