Victor G. Vogel, MD, MHS is the Director of the Magee-Womens Hospital/University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute Breast Cancer Prevention Program. He serves as the protocol chairman of the National Cancer Institute's STAR Trial (Study of Tamoxifen and Raloxifene). Dr. Vogel is board-certified in internal medicine, medical oncology, and general preventive medicine/public health, and he is a fellow of the American Colleges of Medicine and Preventive Medicine. A University of Pittsburgh Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology, Dr. Vogel graduated from Temple University Medical School and earned his Master of Health Science degree from the Johns Hopkins University where he was an Andrew W. Mellon Fellow in Clinical Epidemiology. His research interests are in breast cancer risk assessment and prevention. He is the author of more than 150 articles, book chapters and abstracts, and he edited the book Management of Patients at High Risk for Breast Cancer (Blackwell Science 2001).
Therese B. Bevers, M.D. is the Medical Director of the Cancer Prevention Center and Prevention Outreach Programs at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Her clinical and research interests are in breast cancer risk assessment and chemoprevention. She is the Principal Investigator at M. D. Anderson for the Study of Tamoxifen and Raloxifene (STAR) for the Prevention of Breast Cancer. Dr. Bevers received her doctorate of medicine from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 1987. As a board-certified family physician with her clinical practice and research focused on cancer prevention, Dr. Bevers is ideally positioned to serve as an educational bridge between the areas of primary care and oncology.
