Soft cover. Etat : Very Good ++. Dianne Bersea (illustrateur). First Edition. East Kootenay history goes back to David Thopmpson days (1807); but it was in 1887 when Sam Steele's division of the NWMP came to the immediate area as part of a plan to avoid Indian conflicts. Four maps following page 120 show the regional setting of the fort on the Kootenay River . The first name for the settlement was Galbraith's Ferry. Today there are historic displays such as : dentist's office, bakery, opera house, barber shop, harness shop - and my personal favourite a small herd of working Clydesdale horses. Read about : Lillian Taenhauser, Anglican Vicarage, Kapula, and Joseph's Prairie. 124 pages complemented by sepia-tone drawings of each featured building. Time-line on page 116 and following.
