This book contains papers presented at the Sixth Conference on Computing in Civil Engineering held on September 11-13, 1989 in Atlanta, GA. This series, initiated in 1978, provides a continuing forum for the advancement of intelligent computer use in the profession. In addition to introductory topics, cross-pollination of ideas and techniques from related professions and organizations will be of benefit to even the most experienced computer users. The conference brings together diverse groups within the profession and those affiliated with it to share knowledge, experience and techniques. The objective is to disseminate current and projected developments in both software and hardware and to educate users in the ways in which computers can be applied to practice, administration and education. The book includes papers from a ""Symposium on Expert Systems in Civil Engineering,"" "" as well as topics describing computer use in construction management, geographic information systems and computer applications in large and small engineering firms as well as in government and education.
