About the author

Dr. Martin Nweeia compiles here ten years of column writing for Gannett-USA Today. He was a syndicated columnist first with the Honolulu Star-Bulletin, and a dental correspondent with the CBS affliate KGMB-TV. He has won several writing awards including the International College of Dentist's Golden Pen Award and the Editorial Award of Excellence from the Academy of General Dentistry.

Recognized worldwide as a dental researcher, Dr. Nweeia has led expeditions to the Colombian Amazon, and the Ulithi Atoll in Micronesia. He was a research fellow in anthropology at the Smithsonian Institution and has received numerous grants including those from the American Cancer Society, the National Science Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Dr. Nweeia graduated from Trinity College in Hartford and received his doctorate at Case Western Reserve University. He received his postdoctoral training in Sweden. Dr. Nweeia practiced dentistry in Honolulu for 11 years, and currently practices in Sharon, Connecticut.
