The pieces in this collection were derived from Renaissance guitar manuscripts, principally the first and third books of LeRoy (1551,1552) and the first book of Morlaye (1552). In addition to songs and fantasies, these sources contains many dances based on popular melodies of the era. The hammered dulcimer has always had a popular repertoire, and as the range of the 12/11 dulcimer closely matches that of the 4-course Renaissance guitar, these pieces lie well on the hammered dulcimer. Insightful program notes accompany each piece. Notation appears in clear handwritten script with hammer indication and chord accompaniment symbols. Includes access to online audio.
