This favorite piano cycle was composed by Mussorgsky in about 3 weeks, and was inspired by the drawings and watercolors of a his friend, the painter Victor Hartmann. Many changes have been made to the score over the years but this edition presents the work as Mussorgsky originally composed it. Mussorgsky's well-loved Pictures At An Exhibition in it's original piano-suite form. The subjects of these character-pieces range from 'The Hut On Fowl's Legs' to the 'Ballet of the Chickens in their Shells'! Includes black-and-white pictures of the original drawings from Victor Hartmann's exhibition, which inspired the suite. These pieces is graded 'intermediate-advanced' since several entire movements are well within the grasp of the Grade 7-8 pianist; however there are some extremely difficult moments and so a complete performance of the work would require a more advanced player - for precision, interpretation and sheer stamina as well!
