Synopsis
Designed to better serve master’s level students while meeting needs of doctoral level students in educational research methods, this text provides a comprehensive framework for designing, implementing, and evaluating studies. The only text of its kind to be modeled around the concept of “how research becomes accepted as knowledge,” it offers substantial treatment of research by practitioners (Ch. 23). The Qualitative End (expanded from 5 chapters to Sec. 4); The Qualitative/Quantitative Middle (represented by survey research - Sec. 5); and The Quantitative End (Section 6) help readers realize that they are not confined to either one or the other, but may choose from, merge, and creatively adapt them. In the new edition, the discussion of meta-analysis has been expanded to chapter length (Ch. 21) and the ethics coverage (Ch. 10) is introduced before the research approaches chapters. New appendix on writing a research proposal helpful to doctoral and masters students doing theses. Best used by professors wanting a comprehensive, weighty text.
