Synopsis

Praise for Field Guide to the Birds of Cuba―

"All students of West Indian birds and, especially, all birders visiting Cuba should own this book. Highly recommended."―Cotinga

"Written and illustrated by Cuban nationals, this book is a significant contribution to ornithology within that country. Distribution maps are large and clear. Suitable for all levels of readers."―Choice

"The guide and its excellent color plates are the product of Cubans, which is unusual and welcome among guides published in the United States. As ecotourism to Cuba evolves, this book will be the choice of birders who visit the island."―Wildlife Activist

"As ecotourists return to Cuba to see the country and its plants and animals, they may well wish to take along Orlando Garrido and Arturo Kirkconnell's Field Guide to the Birds of Cuba. Bird descriptions and paintings are useful and often imaginatively helpful."―El Nuevo Herald

"This is an impressive piece of work, an exceptionally complete field guide to the birds of Cuba, a valuable book written by folks who know Cuban birding best."―John Faaborg, University of Missouri, Columbia

Cuba is the largest island in the Caribbean, and its large number of endemic bird species makes it an interesting and increasingly popular destination for birders as tourism expands. This Spanish-language edition of the groundbreaking Field Guide to the Birds of Cuba provides all Spanish-speaking visitors to the country and its citizens with an illustrated field guide to the more than 369 bird species of this island nation for the first time. The guide―with its fifty-one color plates, current distribution maps, and comprehensive species descriptions―includes species that are island residents, migrants, and rarities, as well as twenty-six endemics such as the Bee Hummingbird and Cuban Green Woodpecker that can be seen nowhere else. The information provided by the Cuban author team will allow for easy identification of all of Cuba's birds as well as a greater appreciation of the geography and natural history of this unique island country.
