The American poet Louis Zukofsky received little public attention during his lifetime, though he was regarded by his literary contemporaries as one of the finest writers in the United States. Louis Zukofsky was born in New York City in 1904 and lived there nearly all his life. A close friend and younger contemporary of William Carlos Williams, e. e. cummings, and Ezra Pound, Zukofsky was a poet of ceaseless experiment, as well as a fiction writer, translator, essayist, anthologist, critic, scholar, and teacher. He died in 1978.
