Concise and informative, this volume presents a model which helps counsellors understand culturally different groups and the role culture plays in shaping the way people think, feel and act, and which provides the tools necessary for fostering positive and productive relationships among culturally diverse populations.
Ten cultural elements are incorporated in the model: religious practices, family structure, childrearing practices, values and attitudes, degree of acculturation, poverty, sociopolitical factors, language and the arts, racism and prejudice, and history of oppression.
