Synopsis
This pioneering study makes an important practical contribution to the field of designing effective development programmes. The authors argue that cultural values form an important component of any development strategy. To demonstrate this, their study investigates cultural patterns in regions that have experienced different degrees of development.
From the data collected the authors reach the conclusion that, while injecting capital and encouraging industrial growth are certainly important, investing in cultural change will make the development process faster and smoother.
