Synopsis
"The Tuttle Concise Chinese Dictionary" is designed primarily for English-speakers learning or using Chinese, but also caters to Chinese speakers learning or using English. The dictionary is divided into two distinct parts: Chinese-English, and English-Chinese with a total of 18,000 entries. The entries in both sections cover everyday words that are likely to be used in educational, cultural and tourist settings. The Chinese-English entries contain information on the part(s) of speech for the word under study, useful meanings, its common collocations and the roof form of the word - the last being a most useful feature to enable learners to seek wider meanings and more related derivatives of the word.The English-Chinese entries also show the parts of speech for each term, with their multiple meanings and useful collocations noted. Other useful information in this section include a guide to pronunciation (written to Chinese phonetics), phrasal verbs and idiomatic expressions. There are many sample sentences in both sections - they help the user comprehend how the headword is used in context.

À propos de l?auteur
Li Dong has over 40 years of experience teaching in China and the West. In the early 1980s, he underwent two years of advanced training with the Oxford University Press Lexical Research Unit. He has published many articles on lexicography and is the author of the Tuttle Beginner's Chinese-English Dictionary and the Tuttle Learner's Chinese-English Dictionary.
