Norman Hinsdale Pitman (1876-1925) taught at Chihli Province College in China from 1909-1912 before becoming a professor of English at Peking Teachers College. He was the author of several novels and short story collections, including The Lady Elect, A Chinese Christmas Tree, Chinese Playmates, and Chinese Fairy Tales.
Sylvia Li-chun Lin received her doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley. She is a retired professor of Chinese literature, film, and culture at the University of Notre Dame, and an award-winning writer and translator. Her essays and articles have appeared in the Journal of Modern Literature in Chinese, World Literature Today, and other publications.
