First published in 1955 by Broadman Press, the publishing arm of the Southern Baptist Convention, Stagg's study introduced a generation of students to a fresh narrative reading of Acts. His thesis is anchored in the final word of the Greek text, akolytos, meaning unhindered, arguing that the gospel cannot be bound or contained by racial, national, or religious boundaries. This hardcover carries a layer of regional provenance through the ownership signature of Dallas Thurston Stallings, Jr., dated March 2, 1971, on the front free endpaper. Stallings was an ordained Southern Baptist minister and theologian who studied at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and served as a pastor in Virginia and North Carolina, including ministerial service at Duke University Chapel. The book is collected in the fields of Southern Baptist history, New Testament scholarship, Broadman Press first editions, and regional clergy association copies.
