Egon Schiele was born in 1890 in Tulln on the Danube, Lower Austria. He was an Austrrian painter of Expressionism. Together with Gustav Klimt and Oskar Kokoschka, he is one of the most important visual artists of Viennese Modernism. Schiele was a victim of the Spanish influenza epidemic and lost his life in 1918 at the age of 28 and is buried in Vienna. Schiele's works today achieve top prices at international auctions. In museums worldwide, his paintings are highly valued because in spite of their artistic genius the works find admiration of Schiele's reputation as "early perfection". The largest collections of Schiele's works are located in Viennese museums such as the Leopold Museum, the Belvedere and the Albertina. In addition to numerous self-portraits, Schiele is known above all for his acts, which show men, women and children. His landscapes and images of cities are also gaining in popularity. This book contains nearly his entire work: 275 paintings in full color.

Paperback. Etat : Good. Egon Schiele was a meteor that flashed across the galaxy of Viennese art at the beginning of the last century. Although he lived only twenty-eight years--dying quite suddenly of influenza in 1918 just as World War I came to an end--he left a stunning pictorial oeuvre. Schiele's obsession with sexuality, his own and that of others, made him at once a voyeur and a participant in that sexual imperative which Freud was concurrently plumbing with such unsettling results. The disturbing revelations of Schiele's unmasking portraiture and of the new science of psychology disclosed a collective cultural anxiety during the last years of the crumbling Austrian empire. Schiele was disturbingly dualistic: his provocative explorations of erotica with their startlingly modern sensibilities do not prepare the viewer for the tenderness revealed in his lyrical landscapes and mostly unpeopled town scenes. These emit a haunting loneliness and are related to an obsession with pathos expressed in the artist's melancholy allegories and existential portraits. N° de réf. du vendeur CIN0807608203G
