Synopsis

How can teachers stimulate all their students to become active and purposeful learners? How can teachers use research to make a real difference in the classroom?

The PAVOT ( Perspective and Voice of the Teacher) Project is a well-known teacher research group in Australia―a country that has long been at the forefront of the action research movement. In Learning from Teacher Research, experienced primary and secondary teachers from this well-established group explain how they used action research to tackle challenges they faced in their classrooms. They discuss core pedagogical issues such as motivating unwilling students, helping students to write well, using homework effectively, and matching assessment to teaching strategies. Working with varied populations of students, their studies represent a wide range of subject areas, including English, math, the sciences, history, and geography.

Learning from Teacher Research is a valuable resource for teachers who want to use reflective practice to develop their skills and help their students become active learners.
