This book examines the most important theatrical conventions and explains how they have been used. Through a history of world theatre and its conventions_occasion, stage space, mask and costume, speech, movement and gesture, the play, scenery, and music_Diana Devlin reveals how the illusion of theatre has been created in past ages and passed on to modern times. With a new section, 'Further Study,' by William B. Stern.
