For centuries hallucinogenic mushrooms have participated in a sublime relationship with humankind, thanks to their psychoactive chemicals that shift and modify the human mind. Arik Roper's exquisite painted portraits of magic mushrooms illustrate more than 90 of the known hallucinogenic species from around the world. He captures their powerful auras, adding to a tradition of Mushroom art that stretches back more than 400 years. Popular culture critics Erik Davis and Daniel Pinchbeck provide background and testimony in elegant essays, and mushroom expert Gary Lincoff contributes notes. This beautifully designed and profusely illustrated mushroom bible will appeal to nature lovers, mushroom hunters, and enthusiasts of all things psychedelic.

Arik Moonhawk Roper started out creating record and CD covers primarily for rock and metal bands, such as The Black Crowes, Boris and Earth. He moved into more diverse areas of poster design, graphic illustration and animation. His work ranges from black-and-white illustration to rich abstract psychedelic works and landscapes that often seem to exist in their own universe. Erik Davis is the author of the cult classic, TechGnosis: Myth, Magic, and Mysticism in the Age of Information (1998). His essays on topics relating to media arts and spirituality in the postmodern world have appeared in numerous books and he has contributed articles and essays to a wide variety of publications, including Wired, Bookforum, The Wire and ArtByte. Daniel Pinchbeck is the author of Breaking Open the Head: A Psychedelic Journey into the Heart of Contemporary Shamanism (2002) and 2012: The Return of Quetzalcoatl (2006). He advocates the use of psychedelic substances such as LSD, Psilocybin mushrooms and peyote for enriching people's intellectual, psychological and spiritual beliefs through the psychedelic experience. Gary Lincoff is author of the Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Mushrooms. He is an instructor at the New York Botanical Garden and co-founder of the annual Telluride Mushroom Festival.
