Synopsis
Some of the most penetrating scientific intellects have found that something beyond science is required to make sense of the cosmos, while many of those working for inter-faith dialogue have concluded that "the story of the universe is the only thing that can bring the religions of the world together". Science and religion meet in the mystery of the origin of the cosmos and its implications of human striving; only here can all religions find a common point of reference. This collection of statements by scientists, philosophers and educators throws light on the relation between science and religion. The orientations of the writers are varied (from Christianity to Taoism) and so are the topics covered (from the Big Bang to bacteria, from the split brain to the worship of technology), but together they reveal a certain disquiet at the foundations of the modern worldview.
