This book is the first comprehensive, fully illustrated work to examine this artist's seminal years, beginning with his high school years in Brooklyn, his studies at the Art Students League and the National Academy of Design in New York, and the time he spent in life drawing classes at the more progressive Ferrer Center. Avec 205 illustrations dont 58 en couleurs d'un dessin à l'encre de 1907, Untitled, Still Life : Violin, à un readymade de 1917, New York 1917. Les deux derniers chapitres s'attachent à mettre en valeur l'influence du mouvement Dada sur le travail de l'artiste à partir de 1916, notamment au travers d'oeuvres très peu connues.
