Billig (social sciences, Loughborough University, England) explores the many contributions of Jews throughout the history of rock and roll, from the lyrics of Lieber and Stoller and the production work of Phil Spector through the influence of luminaries such as Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, Carole King, and Lou Reed. He traces continuities between Tin Pan Alley and rhythm and blues, and examines the complex relationships between black and Jewish people which shaped popular entertainment in the 20th century.
