Synopsis
White (Guilford Technical Community College) considers the first five novels of popular Irish writer Roddy Doyle. She pays particular attention to his use of language, his audience's reaction to humor, the roles of religion and politics, and his social vision. The study includes the function of music in The Commitments , character development in The Snapper , and the use of double writing in Paddy Clarke .
