Hamilton Fish, as ranking Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee prior to and during World War II, and a leading spokesman for non~interventionism, was an intimate eyewitness to this crucial period in the nation's history. In this startling revelation of the facts surrounding our entrance into the War, he exposes the cynicism and secret manipulations of FDR and other government officials; he shows, for example, how Roosevelt prodded the British government into the War; how the French were betrayed into believing they could defeat the Germans; the amazing circumstances surrounding the Danzig Agreement, which might have prevented the War; and finally, the danger to our country of the Imperial Presidency. Mr. Fish's long, remarkable career is traced in the Preface to Tragic Deception, in which he is shown to be a statesman of extraordinary caliber~a dedicated American who has always accorded his country's welfare the highest priority. Hamilton Fish is one of the few living former members of the House of Representatives who actively participated in the consideration of the early New Deal measures and in the dramatic pre~war debates of 1939~41. He served three years in the New York State Assembly and 25 years in Congress.
