Thomas F. Barnhart was professor of journalism at the University of Minnesota, where his courses included graphic art processes, typography, the weekly newspaper, advertising, and newspaper promotion. He participated in redesigning the makeup and typography of more than 50 newspapers, including many national award winners, one of which captured the coveted Ayer trophy, the highest award for daily newspapers.
