In section four ("Devotion to the Blessed Virgin in the Church'") we read the following: "Mary was involved in the mysteries of Christ. As the most holy Mother of God she was, after her Son, exalted by divine grace above all angels and men. Hence the Church appropriately honors her with special reverence." These words about Mary may come as a surprise to many. For it is easy to get the impression, in our post-Vatican II Church, that Mary has been dismissed as obsolete or belongs to a simpler time; that Mary has little to say to the modern world of nuclear war, terrorism, and large multi-nationals; or that the Church has come of age and it is time to let go of Mary.
