Cook, Emeritus Professor of Comparative Literature, English and Classics (Brown University), these writings were composed for the occasion by Professor Cook's colleagues and former students. The Editors: Peter Baker, Sarah Webster Goodwin and Gary Handwerk are the authors of: Modern Poetic Practice: Structure and Genesis (1986); Kitsch and Culture: The Dance of Death in 19th-Century Literature and Graphic Arts (1988); and Irony and Ethics in Narrative: From Schlegel to Lacan (1985), respectively. The present volume represents their first collaboration.
