Robert W. Young (1912-2007) was professor emeritus of linguistics at the University of New Mexico. He was a foremost Navajo language expert and author of several Navajo language books.
Navajo scholar William Morgan was honored in July 1996, along with Robert Young, by the Navajo Nation Council for their work on the Navajo language.

Laid in is a typed ten page stapled essay from Young, titled An Analytical Approach to the Development of Effective Teaching Materials and Methodology in an Athapaskan Language. Robert W. Young, linguist, was born on May 18, 1912 in Chicago. He earned his BA from the University of Illinois in 1935, then enrolled in anthropology at the University of New Mexico (UNM) where he began a career working with the Navajo language. He was a Sergeant in the Marine Corps during World Was II, where he earned special merit as an Indian Interpreter,and where his fluency in Navajo was utilized in the testing and selection of Navajos trained as Code Talkers. He was employed by the BIA as a Specialist in Indian Languages, and then in Navajo Tribal Relations. He taught classes in Navajo linguistics at UNM. Young and William Morgan Sr. compiled The Navajo Language: A Grammar and Colloquial Dictionary, published in 1980. An Analytical Lexicon of Navajo by Young, Morgan, and Sally Midgette was published in 1992. Young compiled The Navajo Yearbook which was published annually during the 1950s.
