Developed from a meeting sponsored by the Botanical Society of the American Institute of Biological Sciences, Ames, Iowa, August 1-5, 1993, this work discusses a variety of chemical interactions among plants, encompassing algae, fungi and bacteria, as well as higher plants. It includes chapters on allelopathic interactions involving specific organisms and some of the chemicals isolated during these interactions. The book also: covers mechanisms of action of chemicals involved in allelopathy; illustrates that a better understanding of the allelopathic phenomenon can lead to progress toward more sustainable agricultural systems worldwide; and includes a section on biological control and/or direct coversion of compounds for use in agriculture.
