From the Dust Jacket: "The origins of the Wiltshire Regiment can be traced back to the raising of the 4th Regiment of Foot in Exeter 1756. It was in 17588 that the 2/4th Foot became the 62nd Regiment. As the 62nd they fought in nearly all the campaigns which became landmarks in the foundation of the British Empire, from the fever-ridden West Indies to the dusty vastness of India. In 1824 the 99th Regiment, with whom, sixty years later, they were to be linked under the Cardwell reforms, was raised in Glasgow and they likewise embarked on a career of fighting in all corners of the globe In 1881, the 62nd and the 99th linked up. they become the 1st and 2nd Battalions the Duke of Edinburgh's Wiltshire Regiment With battalions in all theatres of the 1914-18 war and with a remarkable record in the 1939-45 war, where they particularly distinguished themselves in the fighting round Mount Pincon and in the Seine crossings."
