Synopsis

The Water Resources Programme of the Commonwealth Secretariat advises and supports governments on policies and strategies for effective management of water resources, including the use of the integrated water resources management (IWRM) approach. Publications related to the programme endeavour to promote this approach. They highlight the work being carried out in Commonwealth countries for the effective development of water resources for man, food and ecosystems as well as the contribution of the Commonwealth Secretariat to the debate on sustainable development. This volume of case studies shows the importance of the delineation of wellhead protection areas, the implementation of zoning policies and the use of groundwater vulnerability maps in the effective management of groundwater resources and the prevention of contamination.
