Robert Steinke served his apprenticeship at Keith Luxford, the Queen's saddler and harness maker and attended Cordwainer's College, London, to further his studies and pass his City and Guilds exams. He set up his own business in 1970 specializing in custom-made driving harness and fine bridlework which he has exported worldwide. In the late 1980s he broke his trusty 18-year-old cob, Duke, to drive thus gaining valuable first-hand experience with harness and as a whip that contributed greatly to the writing of this book. The author is also the book's photographer and illustrator. Robert Steinke lives in Southern Ireland and divides his time between giving demonstration workshops, lectures and art.
