Synopsis
Equine reproduction has been revolutionized by many aspects of new technology since the 1990s. The advancements in veterinary care and expertise available to breeders are remarkably complex and, in many cases, bewildering. The aim of this book is to explain, in layman's terms, the basic fundamental principles that help form the day-to-day management of a successful breeding operation, regardless of size. This book covers all aspects of routine stud care, from the basics of anatomy and physiology, through to pregnancy and foaling. The emphasis is on the management of the breeding horse throughout the stud year, as well as the care and early preparation of young stock. It also includes sections on aspects of stud work that are often overlooked, such as choosing a suitable broodmare, normal and abnormal breeding behaviour, as well as a section on stud design and administration. "Equine Stud Management" is designed specifically as a first textbook for equine students and prospective horse breeders. As a useful, practical foundation text, this book covers the syllabuses for both NVQ and BHS related examinations. À propos de l'auteur
Melanie Bailey is a freelance equine lecturer, specializing in equine reproduction and equine behaviour. A graduate of Warwickshire College of Agriculture, she has been involved with Thoroughbred bloodstock for the majority of her career based in England, Europe and Australia. She is the co-author with Dr Peter Rossdale of The Horse from Conception (2002 edition) and has contributed to other publications and written for specialist magazines.
